Percussionist, composer, and educator Justin Jay Hines has performed with the New York Philharmonic, The Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival, Moab Music Festival, Alarm Will Sound, and the Chamber Music Society of Detroit.
He has served as a Lead NY Philharmonic Teaching Artist in New York City and Japan since 1997. Next January he will make his 6th appearance hosting the New York Philharmonic’s Young People’s Concert The Future is Innovation.
As a Broadway musician, Justin has played on many Tony Award-winning shows, including
In the Heights, Pippin, Caroline or Change, Disney’s Tarzan, and HalfTime.
Hines has also collaborated with the Juilliard School, the St. Louis Symphony, New World Symphony, 92nd Street Y, Lincoln Center Education, Carnegie Hall, and the Caramoor Center for the Arts as a leader of aesthetic education experiences.
His classical compositions have been performed by his groups Classical Jam and JUSTADUO at venues throughout the US and Asia.
Currently he is a senior composition mentor for the NY Philharmonic’s Very Young Composers program, faculty at Manhattan School of Music, and the Artistic Director & Co-Founder of Living Arts Collaborative, Inc.
He is the proud recipient of MSM’s Pablo Casals Award for Community Outreach.
